Skipping the relay harness is the most common mistake. Some people try to wire the bar directly through a switch to the battery or tap into an existing circuit. That works until it does not. A light bar draws significantly more current than most factory circuits are designed to handle. A relay harness is cheap insurance against a melted wire, a blown fuse, or worse.
The second common mistake is poor wire routing. Wires that run near exhaust components, over sharp metal edges, or through areas that collect water will fail. Route wires through existing grommets where possible. If you have to drill a new hole through the firewall, use a rubber grommet to protect the wire from the sharp edge of the hole.
